I am not a BBQ connoisseur but I do have my occasional BBQ cravings. This location is pretty far from civilization but on route 108 which is on my route to home/work. I ordered the 1/2 Slab which has 6 Bones and it comes with 1 small side & bread for $13.99. This entree came with overwhelming portions! The ribs feel a little flat for me. I had to douse them in sauces (provided by the table side) and the edges were overly burnt. The meat near the center of the rib was nice and fell right off the bone. I wish my ribs were cooked more uniformly. The sides were pretty good. I have a weak spot for cornbread and it was moist and flavorful.

We went there for dinner after three hours of hard work at the Adventure Park in Sandy Spring. We had 9 and 10 years old amongst us. Kids meals are pretty decent in pricing. Not all kids meals come with a side. Mac and Cheese does not. However, if you get the chicken nuggets, corn dog, you will get a side at no extra cost. You can get Mac and Cheese, sweet potato tot as a side. One of my kids ordered Mac and Cheese as a side and it came out the same size as the Mac and Cheese as the meal. Strange. We tried their ribs and found it on the dry side. For a BBQ company, it was disappointing. We also enjoyed the wings. I ordered a BBQ chicken salad and it was yum. The price is decent and the service is hit or miss depends on the servers.

Well, two months have passed since I emailed my May 5, 2012 review to the owners. Not only did I NOT receive an apology from them, I never hear anything from them! If that's what the owners of a restaurant feel is appropriate when a customer takes the time to write a detailed accoount of a disasterous dinner at their establishment, then I encourage people NOT TO EAT THERE! I haven't been to their Rockville location since the awful experience in Sandy Spring, and I will now NEVER go back to ANY Urban Bar-B-Que. You should do the same!

Those dragon honey bbq wings have been haunting me in my sleep since I had dinner at Urban BBQ. They were tender and juicy and tangy and just a little sweet and oh-so-perfect. They were to die for. Every time I get in my car, I feel a magnetic pull toward this place, and it's only a matter of time until I can't resist it any longer. Urban has a great atmosphere and some of the best southern-style bbq in the area. This is definitely the place to go for the Washingtonian barbeque enthusiast. You can be sure I will be back. Note: the parking lot fills up quickly on weekends, and there aren't too many other parking options around.

Food is great and service is too. There is do much to choose from the menu for bbq. We had a birthday in our party and brought a cake. They had candles for us and even cut the cake for us! Very friendly and great atmosphere!

I was pretty pleased with this place. I had the chicken sandwich and I like that you could order it several different styles. I got mine with a fried green tomato which I have never had but really enjoyed. Our server was great-very friendly and quick.

Best Brisket and BBQ in DC area hands down! Don't miss the redneck fondue! Great for a beer to watch the game too, skip the turtle and head to UBQ!

For a while, it seemed there was nothing new in Sandy Spring. On my first visit at Urban BBQ, the brisket platter and mac n' cheese I had was a home run for me. As for the place itself, it may look a storage unit from the inside, but their food is underrated.

We went there this Monday for dinner and to drown our government shutdown sorrows. I have to say - this place has the best barbecue in the area. Will certainly go back. Great selection of local and craft brews, fantastic ribs, brisket, collard greens, and good (not great) service. Hell - it's a bunch of college kids, so I'm giving them a break. Otherwise, fantastic food and a great gem in Sandy Spring.

Nothing says BBQ like an afternoon at the theater. We stopped to eat here since a friend had noticed it a few days before while driving by. The atmosphere is everything you'd expect. I got the 2 meat platter (chicken and brisket) which came with a side (mac n cheese) and finished it off with a Dominion Root Beer. Maybe it's house root beer, but they use dominion taps? Either way, I was excited to see that the root beer DID come out of a tap, instead of the soda machine. We sat outside on some newly installed picnic benches to eat in the early evening sun. I'm not frequently in Olney, but if I were, I'd make this a regular spot. Good food, staff that remember your name, outdoor seating, and a nice bar area too.

When I try a new place these days I expect mediocrity and this place sure delivered. The waitress was pleasant but disappeared for long stretches. The appetizers were forgettable. The ribs were just ok. I've had mouth-watering savory delectable ribs before but this place didn't measure up. The decor was kind of cheesy. If it wasn't for the bartender who was very helpful (refilling our beers and locating our waitress when needed - thanks man), I'd have to give this place 2 stars. I won't be back.

I have stopped attempting to make brisket after ubq did it so well. The sides distinguish a Bbq joint. Ubq has great beans. My wife loves the brisket salad.

Let me start off by saying the 4 stars are primarily for customer service not so much the food. I ordered a full rack of ribs fries and corn bread. When the ribs came we dug right in maybe 2 or 3 ribs or so. They were cold, really cold. Here is where the 4 stars come from, I sent the ribs back and asked the waitress to reheat the rack. While I was waiting I started to eat the corn bread. It was wrapped in plastic and was as stale as could be. I couldn't believe they actually brought corn bread that hard to the table. Between the two I was rather turned off. I had also ordered wings. They came nice and hot. They were quite good. After some time, and brand new full rack of ribs comes out. I was quite impressed with that as I was expecting my previous partially eaten and nuked rack back. Also was pleasantly surprised to get yet another piece of wrapped corn bread. This one however was soft, fresh and good. It was a bit odd - It didn't come with hand we weren't offered butter. Ok, so for the ribs, they were still not really "hot" more like warm. Not sure what the issue was in the kitchen where they couldn't get the ribs hot. We had been there too long and I didn't want to sit around any longer so I just dealt w/it. Ate a few of them and they were just ok, nothing special, just ok. I thought they were a bit on the dry side but my friend liked them so who knows. Waitress could tell we were done and very quickly brought us a to go box to take home the food we didn't eat. My friend had a chicken sandwich. Again, thought the meat was dry and there was a lot or either paprika or rub sprinkled on the sandwich and all over her plate. The sandwich was also just ok - nothing remarkable or special. The service was great, unfortunately, the food was just so-so. Maybe the kitchen was just having issues Sunday.

As the daughter of a butcher, I'm picky about meat. Yeah, I said it. This is pretty standard barbeque...but that said, I find NOTHING wrong with that. The meat can occasionally be a touch dry, but the sauces are good, especially the nice vinegar heavy Carolina style. The highlight of the menu for me, though, is...wait for it...2 homemade corndogs smothered in "redneck fondue"- basically queso...so wrong. And so right. Plus, its cheap, they're open late, and have great football and happy hour prices. No frills...just meat. Oh, and smashing collards.

One of the better roadside grown up Bar-B-Que places I have eaten at. Highly recommend this place to anyone who likes BBQ. Plus it's handy to The Adventure Park tree climbing and zip line fun spot. Enjoy!

The place was a little kitschy but interesting. I ordered the half rack of ribs with cornbread and Mac n Cheese. The ribs were very tender and had a sauce glaze on them. It was tasty but still seemed lacking. The waiter brought over a large plastic bottle of homemade hot sauce though and that seemed to do the trick. The Mac n Cheese was very good. The cornbread was also good but I'm not sure why they felt that they had to serve it wrapped in Saran wrap? I found the place to be a little expensive.

I drive past this restaurant every single day, and I finally stopped in for a carry out lunch sandwich. As my father would have said, the sandwich was nothing but kneecaps and elbows (tendons and gristle). I ordered a simple pulled chicken sandwich and took it back to the office to eat. It was absolutely horrendous! There were more tendons and hunks of fat and gristle than seemed possible on a single sandwich. The roll had to be the cheapest roll they could find. Surprisingly, I didn't care for the bbq taste at all, and I like almost any kind of bbq sauce. I recognize that bbq sauce is more a matter of personal preference, but there's no excuse for a popular, successful restaurant with a seemingly solid reputation serving a sandwich that was this pitiful. Maybe they were out of good rolls and they had to improvise on this particular day. Maybe the bbq sauce just isn't my cup of tea. But mouthful after mouthful of "kneecaps and elbows" isn't something I can get past. In fact, I couldn't even finish the sandwich, which is a rarity for me. And it was bad enough that I definitely won't be giving this restaurant a second chance.

Overall, it was pretty good. The ambiance was a cowboy type kitsch but it works. The tables are covered with brown paper like some crab houses have and it has extra paper towels, handiwipes and their BBQ sauces. The food is presented on chuck wagon like tin plates They also have a self serve peanut station. I had the chile for an appetizer and it was excellent. It comes with the extras (cheese, green onions and sour cream) on the side and I had mine with cornbread (excellent... Moist and delicious). I then had the two meat combo which was the pork and beef (brisket) with tortillas (you have a choice of a roll, cornbread or flour tortilla) and French fries (I don't know what they do with them but dang... it's ranks high among my favs). Both the beef and pork were tender and seasoned perfectly. Price wise it's competitive as you get quite a bit of food for the price. Cornbread is big and the give you a bowl of chili which could have been an entree by itself. Needless to say I ate way too much but it was mm, mm good. 4 stars because it was good but BBQ is not my go to food.

I used to frequent the Urban BBQ on New Hampshire Ave (definitely a fan) and was glad to see that they had another location in Sandy Spring (close to Laurel where we live). My hubby and I decided to try this locale, and were pleasantly surprised as it has sit-down service, friendly waitstaff and quality beers on tap to wash down that delicious BBQ goodness! My favorite item to order is the one meat platter with pulled pork on a brioche bun with a side of coleslaw (essentially a pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on top). So good! The meat is very tender alone but also tastes good with extra sauce on top (provided in bottles right at your table). The cider based sauce is my favorite, along with the mustard based sauce. The fried twinkie is a very sweet way to top off your meal. I think all of their desserts are homemade which is a plus. Overall, this has become our favorite local place for BBQ!

I so want to give these guys 5 stars. I really like this place. I was just there and I think I saw one of the owners in action. A real nice, patient guy that takes care of the customers. Decor is just what you'd expect from a bar-b-que place. Useful paper towels, wipes and utensils hung next to your table. A wide assortment of sauces, from mustard, vinegar, to spicy. Nothing to sweet, which is fine for me. I prefer the North Carolina Vinegar any day. They have draft root beer (yeah!), two kinds of tea, etc. The food I've tasted so far is fantastic. I love the sides! Coleslaw is nice and not sweet like most guys make it. Seems homemade, with what looks like parsley. Taste great. Beans have chunks of pork and are not overly sweet. Hand cut fries are plentiful with great potato taste. Pull pork is juicy and full of flavor. The biggest disappointment are the ribs. They are just good. I had to taste them a second time, to be fair, prior to this review. They don't have much of a bark to bark about. They are dry even with the sauce. They are not baby back, so of course not as tender, but there is just something lacking in the most important dish. Now don't be discouraged, if you want ribs, go get some. They are good. Just not great. It is hard to find good ribs. I've always thought Houston's made the best in town. However, since they closed their Rockville locations, this is the best rib joint in Rockville. Please Urban guys, rethink your style for cooking ribs. Otherwise, fantastic job. Also, the prices are completely reasonable.

I have only come here for takeout and catering, but this weekend we decided to grab a table and eat in. The dining area makes the Olney location unique from Rockville and Silver Spring, where you just order at the counter and serve yourself. When I walk into restaurants and see primarily teens waiting tables I prepare myself for mediocre or bad service. However Olney Urban BBQ really impressed me. Not only was my server extremely friendly and attentive, but I noticed that many of the servers were taking pride in their work and seemed to enjoy working there. I will keep coming back, not only for the great food but also the great staff!

I was so excited when they opened this location, same quality food as the Rockville location. I've never eaten at this location we usually take it to go but If you're craving yummy bbq this is your place.

So delicious! I visited the Sandy Spring location but they have restaurants in Rockville and Hillandale. Everything is reasonably priced with generous portions. Excellent BBQ flavors and I loved that they had the different styles of BBQ sauce at the table. They have a ton of micro-breweries on tap which was a pleasant surprise! The sides where fresh and just the right size. Our waitress was so nice and personable which totally made our experience that much better! The overall appearance and feel of the restaurant is laid-back but fun! Has the potential to be a regular spot!

This place was good the last time we went but tonight it was lousy. My wife's ribs were awful and when I say awful, I mean shoe leather tough. The waiter insulted me when he said, "Man, you at that fast!" after I had been with my daughter at the video game when the food was served. I came back, sat down and ate my food in about 15 minutes which I though was reasonable enough? I didn't slam my meal or anything and even if I had, so what? When I asked for another beer, the waiter's reply was "Really?". When you're going to spend $100.0 at a bbq place and this is your experience, you won't rush back. For future reference, turn the heat down on the pork and if a customer wants more than 2 beers, keep your mouth shut and just go and get it. It just goes to show how Montgomery County is crying out for half decent restaurants, run properly with good food and drink and how this is just another place that missed the boat on those elements.

This was my first time here and it will be my last. The brisket was tough and when I complained about it, the waitress just said, "You probably got the end." and she walked away. Never offered to comp it or get me replacement food. It wasn't the end it just wasn't cooked long enough. The chopped pork was moist and tender but tasted like roasted pork with bottled BBQ sauce, kind of like cafeteria food. The baked beans were no better than canned and tasted strong of chili powder and sugar, but not much else. The cornbread came out wrapped in plastic and cold! No butter was offered. The sauces were mediocre. There was a tomato based sauce with liquid smoke in it that was ok. There was a vinegar sauce that was the pits and a honey mustard sauce that quite good but I would never use it on BBQ.

Went on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in June, sat outside. Service (the host, the server) was very good - attentive enough, and unfailingly polite. The food was a mixed bag. I ordered a half-rack of pork ribs, and like others here, I found them to be a bit dry, chewy, and overcooked - definitely not the way ribs should be. My kids had chicken - the pulled chicken had an odd taste to the seasoning, and the grilled chicken sandwich was more charred than grilled. The appetizers and sides (especially the cole slaw and the fries) were top-notch, and they bring a variety of BBQ sauces (NC, SC, TN (? - not sure about this last one)) to the table. Overall a good experience, and I'd be wiling to try UBQ again, but not optimistic given the treatment of the main attraction - meat.

Its a little off the beaten path, but once you find it, you are greeted by some great barbq and a good beer selection. Since visiting this place for the first time, the "Urban Burger" which is right next to my neighborhood, has been converted to "Urban BBQ", so now I've got even easier access to all the amazing BBQ I want.

I passed by this place on the way from BWI to Olney and was excited to find a local BBQ place to satisfy my carnivorous ways. I'm a self proclaimed BBQ fanatic and having lived many years in Texas I've eaten my weight in most barbecued meats. The restaurant in situated just off of Olney Sandy Spring Rd and is very bright and visible with its blue paint and red roof. They have an eclectically decorated dining room with lots of Americana. There were plenty of TV's going to keep me up on my Sportscenter fix. I'm sure with the large dining room and patio that its probably easy to get a table. I had the 2 meat plate with Brisket and Pulled Pork. The brisket had good flavor which is important. Great BBQ doesn't necessarily need sauce. I thought it was a touch on the cool side by the time it made it in front of me. The pulled pork was served on the all important white bread and was good but not as good as the brisket. The pork was a touch dry and benefited from the sauce. There were 3 BBQ sauces. One of a normal flavor, one vinegar based and one mustard based. I really enjoyed the normal BBQ sauce. It was sweet without being too sugary. The dish was served with one side. I had the BBQ Beans. They were piping hot and had almost too much of a BBQ sauce taste. There was a limited selection of other sides to choose from also. I wish they had had a green beans side in addition to the collard greens offered. But lest we forget, sides are an afterthought at most great BBQ places. So I'll let it pass... The cornbread served was wrapped in clear wrap. It was clearly made a lot earlier and was a touch dry even for being wrapped for freshness. I think this was a great local BBQ place and it was a great find while traveling. I would highly recommend its slow roasted meats!

I know BBQ and this place is my local favorite!! For an appetizer, I highly recommend the Urban Soul Rolls (A "BBQ" eggroll with brisket, sweet onions and three cheeses. Served with Redneck Fondue for dippin') AMAZING. You cant go wrong with any of the entree options. The burgers are delicious but why go to a BBQ joint and not get a BBQ staple; Brisket, Chicken, Ribs, Pork? The brisket is slow cooked to perfection. the pink smoke ring says it all. The pork has to be one of my favorites. People in the BBQ world say a pork butt is the most forgiving meat to smoke but Urban BBQ has perfected it. Try it dry or with one of their amazing sauces, you cant go wrong. For a side, I recommend the Mac and Cheese. Urban BBQ's Mac and Cheese is my all time favorite (don't tell my mom). The cornbread is amazing as well.

Not a lot of call for soul food in the area. This place has the best turnip greens in 2 counties. The chopped pork is amazing, and to top it all, I found a new favorite local waiter, Phillip, was the best guy I have had wait on me in a year. Seriously good BBQ, Best Greens going, waitstaff you just have to brag about, wow! You should go here.

Kitchen was slow, but the ribs & chicken wings were excellent. I haven't been this surprised by BBQ in many years.

I had the pulled-pork BBQ. The predominant flavor was salty- extremely salty. The saltiness obliterated any of the more pleasurable flavors that might have been present, but didn't have a chance. I attribute this to the sauce it was cooked with. I didn't add any extra sauce, although an ample variety was available in absolutely filthy, sticky, war-torn plastic squeeze bottles that looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a decade. One bottle in particular was leaking near the spout, with a pool of sauce oozing all over the place. The cole slaw and corn bread was quite good, but since the star attraction (the BBQ) was poor, I can't recommend this place. The service was extremely friendly, the waitress very attentive and happy to talk with us. This is one of four restaurants in some kind of chain. The one in Adelphi, which I have eaten at 3 or 4 times in the past year, had better BBQ. The Adelphi restaurant also seemed a lot cleaner. This place is pretty dirty.

Glad to have a good BBQ joint in our area. I have frequented UBQ both in Rockville (near my workplace) and the one in Sandy Spring and agree that the brisket is delicious. Although not the best BBQ I have ever had it is respectable across the board. All the meats are smoky, tender, and the sauces are decent. I spoke to one of the owners(?) a few times regarding their expansion into the adjoining space, he stated that they hope to open it by Labor Day. I haven't been by there in several weeks so I don't know if they are on schedule. I mentioned that with the additional dining space and bar the only thing missing was blues music, adding that BBQ and blues go together. I was happy to hear that plans call for a stage to be added to the new space and live music!! I can't wait, we need more spaces with LIVE music in the area.

This place is sooo frickin' awesome. I have been searching high and low for a place that reminds me of Texas BBQ, and FINALLY-- we found it! Everything I have had here is yummy-- the brisket is exceptional. Mac n cheese is actually quite good. Fries are fresh cut and the cheese really makes it extra yummy. One of our favorite things here are the soul rouls-- try them. you won't be sorry! The sweet tea is hit or miss. Sometimes it is like real southern sweet tea should be-- sweet and syrupy. Sometimes you can barely tell there is sweetner in there. Overall a great place to check out! A real hidden gem!

I'm really happy to have discovered this place. I've been back a handful of times over a few months. I usually order beef brisket with fries and blue cheese on the side. Its delicious! We tried this restaurant on a recommendation. We were rather disappointed with the food. We both had the pulled pork platter, portion size was rather small and did not have much flavor although the meat quality was good. The fries, coleslaw and mashed potatoes were good, the cornbread was extremely dry and tasteless. Service was good, the waitress was friendly but the hostess could use some customer service manners.

This place didn't wow me at all. We had the redneck fondue which was really expensive for a tiny ramekin of chili with cheese over it and chips. I think a redneck would be insulted. We didn't like the sweet bbq dusting on the chips either. The two stars really comes from the flat beer that we were served. We ordered the Heavy Seas IPA. Totally flat and gross. They have a decent selection of beers - I hope they're not all flat. What a waste. Too bad - this place has potential.

Eric the bartender is great!!! Come here when he is here :) However there is a young lady who he is training behind the bar with "shedding long hair" that is not pulled back like the other workers. YUCK! And she handles your bar food !!!! Aside from that and I have been here 3x now same thing!! the food is good. Girlie TIE UP YOUR HAIR !!

Great place! Came on a sunny day at around 1:30 Sunday and had their beef brisket sandwich and half rack ribs with house fries. Wow the ribs were awesome! Loved the sauce on the ribs! Not a fan of the Carolina BBQ sauce on the table though, but the yella sauce was pretty good. I'm a fan of their moist towelettes on the table as I'm a messy person.

The food probably deserves 3-4 stars, but the service is what dragged their rating down. I've eaten at a few Urban BBQ locations and I've found their food to be fairly consistently good, especially the brisket, but also the pulled pork, the ribs, the chicken, and the sides. If you get a salad, the Buttermilk Ranch dressing is amazing, very garlicky and perfect for a meaty salad. However, the last time I ordered takeout from this location I did not get any brisket with my Texas Steakhouse Salad, and I had to drive all the way back to pick it up while my food (and my wife) sat at home waiting. They did apologize, but it was somewhat perfunctory. For having to wait much longer than expected to eat, and to drive there and back again, I was expecting more of an apology, but not only did they not seem overly concerned, they did not even offer a side or a dessert. Not that I needed one, but the offer would have been nice, considering I had to spend twice as much on gas for this meal than I had planned thanks to their mistake, plus our dinner was delayed. I might even have more sympathy if they were slammed, but we eat very early, and the takeout side was completely empty and the kitchen was very quiet when we picked up our order. So if you really want to order from there, eat in or check every part of your order thoroughly. I made the mistake of tipping on takeout without checking the order, I won't make that mistake with them again...if I go back.

In terms of BBQ, this place is quite disappointing. When getting food to go, very little protein was actually given within their dishes. For a BBQ place this already is starting off on the wrong foot. The food was also quite poor in terms of quality. No BBQ sauce was actually given and the flavor of the pulled pork and pulled chicken were mediocre at best. The BBQ beans were sub par as well. The only things worth consuming were the mashed potatoes and gravy and the cornbread. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone caring to experience decent BBQ.

  • Jen J.

Nice enough place. Good service. The rib rack was delicious. The sandwiches were just ok, hence the one star is off. I got the brisket sandwich, I thought it was a little dry and the meat chewy. My hubby got the pulled chicken, again just ok. The coleslaw and corn break were pretty good though and my daughter liked the mac & cheese, but that's not what we went here for!

On a baby-free evening, we wanted to try Urban BBQ. I love this location, first off. Also, they have plenty of seating, bar games, and outdoor seating to boot. Food-wise, what can I say but BOOM! Excellent selection of barbecue, ranging from brisket to ribs to pulled pork. The sides were decent but not out-of-the-park. I came another time with my brother and had the smothered corn dogs (I forgot what they were called). Extreme indulgence and gluttony on a place! They cover it with cheese and even some burnt end bits!!!

I like this location. They have some great Happy Hour specials, which are available throughout the restaurant and some even for take out. Can't beat half price ribs on Tuesdays. I usually get the sliced beef, which is tasty and fairly moist. The mashed potatoes and gravy are delicious and I can also vouch for the mac and cheese. And they have collards! Yup, I"m a "sides" girl!!! Considering all of the genericalishamish restaurant/bars they have in Montgomery, the bar at this location is actually pretty genuine and and a place I could feel somewhat comfortable having a drink, and not like I was lost in suburbia, I can no longer live happily.... Super nice, great customer service here, too. The take out area is currently a hot mess. They are doing some sort of remodel, but I think they've taken a "pause" to decide what to do with it. One complaint - the takeout area is always freezing in the winter. I usually have a drink at the bar and order my takeout from there. I love that this place is on the NFL "cusp." Half the patrons love the Skins, and half love the Ravens. My tastes veer north, so I choose purple. Several types of barbeque sauce here but only one is to my liking - the regular sauce, which is actually quite tasty. This is nowhere near as good as a genuine barbeque shack you might find in Georgia the Carolinas or even the part of Virginia that is Old Virginian, not "Northern Virginiamatron." But, look at where you are. We take what we can get in this very strange federalist town. We love our economy, our stability. But soul, we are a lackin'

This place is pretty decent, the corn salad is pretty tasty, staff is caring but the quality is not up to what it used to be when it was O'Brians. I still will be going back once in a while.

very disappointed, the service staff was Amanda and started off on the wrong foot. We ordered a couple of Coors light drafts and told her that the beers was sour and didn't taste right. She told us the bar tender said its was fine . that should have been our first sign. finally got a good bottle beer and the long wait for our food. The corn bread was dry as a day in the las Vegas dessert. the fries was cooked twice was long as needed and wasn't even hot the sides was not worth getting meats was great! even if our Servicer didn't follow up till three quarters done had to keep asking for another beer. over 21++ then the check came and she stated no sperate Checks which should of be stated when taking the order. Service was one star....Food was a two out of five.

I have tried to eat their ribs twice now. Both times they where raw. I wanted this place to be good so bad. It's close to me and I love BBQ. This place falls short on so many things. I think their more worried about the bar flys then and food. The corn bread was days old, and it was consistency of sand with bits of corn in the middle. This is BBQ not gourmet food, ribs are not a hard thing to cook, really I'm sure they smoke them at some point, but then reheat them to order. I was there with three other dinners, and tried some of their food. Not bad was the brisket, the chicken was dry and fairly certain it had been threw the microwave as well. BBQ should be cooked to order not put in the microwave when ordered. The waitress could care less about the state of the food. Dine at your own risk.

Not sure what happened, but I have been to this restaurant at least 4 or 5 times before tonight, but they fell flat today. I ordered the 3 meat platter, getting the sausage, brisket, and the chopped pork. First off, the chopped pork was cold, as in like it had been taken out of the refrigerator to be thawed sorta cold. Secondly, my brisket looked like one of those old women who are obsessed with tanning and are crafted from old boot leather. I am guessing it spent quite a lot of time under a heat lamp before it made it to my plate. The sausage was the only redeeming feature of my entire entree. I wasn't the only one with similar issues. My father in law's chopped pork was cold, too (so we must have gotten ours from the same batch) and my mother in law's Urban Legend was luke warm. What made matters worse, the replacement she got for her original was also luke warm. Then the free deserts we got as a result of the terrible food was ICE COLD in the middle. If this had been some sort of ice cream that would be fine, but it was supposed to be apple crumb/brown betty and it was cold. The final insult was our waitress, who continually seemed to be busy with everyone else but us, which is a shame since we tip really really well normally.

Great atmosphere, decent priced drinks...., I tried the 3 meat platter-meats were full of flavor-I didn't even add any sauce! mac and cheese was good-just a tad dry (and a pretty small portion). Fries were good and they were a good sized portion.

I may be 14 but I know my food!!! The service was excellent but the barbecue on the other hand was not. The barbecue is not what you would expect especially the ribs. The ribs were dry and did not have a lot of meat. Also the portions were very small compared to the other restaurants around. But overall to me the only good thing was the service.

The only reason I give one star is because 0 stars is not an option. I went to this restaurant Jan 10th and sat at the bar. The whole experience was a disaster. First, the bartender was very uninterested to serve us, then our food came out our brisket was cold, pork ribs clearly re-heated. I understand that it was close to 9 pm but that is not an excuse for cold, re-heated food. I asked the bartender who ask her manager to come talk to us. Manager was disputing the fact that our food was cold, I challenged him to touch a piece of the brisket, he said no. 5 mins later he comes back with an over reheated plate of brisket (looked like beef jerky). I was in shock by the lack of customer service, lack of care and poor quality of food served. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I love Thanksgiving. The vibe of it, the traditions associated with it, and of course, the food and drink that goes along with it. Really, its the only holiday based around gluttony. Yeah, I know theres a higher meaning there, but when it comes down to brass tacks, its about stuffing your face all day long, and then doing it again the next day. Its wonderful! But, no matter how wonderfully its done (and no one can outdo my sister in law Patty when it comes to preparing a meal) all that Turkey leaves me looking for something a bit different the next day. So, Olney, Maryland, where we visited with my aforementioned sister in law and her family, has an Urban Barbecue. My brother in law Paolo, his boy Jack, my own boy Matt, and I went at about 2pm for a meal, and frankly, its a lot better than you would think. I had the Ribs as did my boy. They are big, meaty, and still had some chew on them, so they didn't necessarily "fall off the bone". As I've said, whether you like them this way or not is personal preference. Nothing wrong with either way! I like them both ways, and have no problem at all with the meat not completely falling away from the bone. Hence the "chew". These were just so. I enjoy my ribs simply with the dry rub, choosing to add sauces on my own and from the offerings on the table. The sauces here are standard, nothing out of the ordinary, but just good. The fries that accompany the meal (you get a choice of two sides) were greasy, but in a good way...and salty which is a relief. Too many places nowadays seem to omit the salt for health reasons. Obviously, flavor is sacrificed. Now, my nephew Jack went with the pulled pork. Its not a favorite of mine, and this tasted pretty good. Im no expert on it, but if it tastes ok, Im good with it. Jack is much more of an authority than I am, and he declared it excellent. Im not qualified to judge it, but if Jack says its good, that's good enough for me. Brisket. Its a tough meat to prepare. Ive tried doing it myself, smoking it for upwards of 10 or 12 hours, with much failure. Paolo ordered it, and was gracious enough to let me sample. It was moist, flavorful, tender (everything mine was not!) and really good. He enjoyed it, and so did I. He's a big lad, though, is Paolo, and could have used a bit more, I think. However, fortified with a few of my ribs (I had a full slab) he was just fine. I found the cornbread moist and tasty. Some other reviews have said it was dry, but not the case for us this time. Its really good. There's a ton of beers here, and the décor is pretty cool. Service was with a smile from what appear to be college kids, and its fine. Prices are good, too. You could spend a lot more for a lot worse. All that being said, I wont say this is a destination joint. You wont want to drive much to get here, but as a local place that serves up some pretty good grub, you should be ok. I enjoyed it, probably due to the company I was with, more than I likely would have under other circumstances. But thats cool. Its a fine place to go with friends to chill out, have some drinks, and enjoy a good meal.

Consistently trending downhill. Food is ALWAYS cold, overdone and arrives way too quickly to have been cooked to order. Fries are always mushy and dead on arrival. The ribs, although sometimes edible, seem to have been cooked the day before and only momentarily reheated on the grill. More importantly, the place is getting disgusting. There's always trash and cig butts all over the deck. The various BBQ sauce bottles offered are always gross, as if they never get wiped down. People! It's a BBQ joint! Folks are going to be using their sticky fingers to grab condiments - you have to wipe that stuff down! I don't want to have intimate contact with the last 50 people that sat at my table! Bottom line: No one gives a crap about the place anymore. Until they wake up, which will be when revenue hits rock-bottom, steer clear.

2:30pm on a Saturday. Business was slow. Wait service was slow. Ordered the rack of ribs. Not impressed. Can do better on my backyard grill. These were not very slow cooked. Slightly chewy--not falling off the bone like good bbq should. The side was unmemorable. Should have gotten the fries, like everyone else at the table. THEY were good!

Eh...not bad for BBQ on the east coast. Oversmoked and overcooked. Dry and stringy is different than meaty and tender.

It was ok. That's it. Just ok. The service was good and attentive enough- nothing stand out. The ambiance is about what you'd expect. Cliche but nothing off putting. The food was fine...just fine. If it was either a little cheaper or they gave slightly larger portions I might go there again but as it stands now I probably won't be back. I had the brisket platter which was a little small given the price though the fries were plentiful. The meat itself was ok. Far from the best I've had but not bad. The BBQ sauces were uninspired and I imagine they came from some mass production style company like Heinz. The sweet potato tots as an appetizer was a good idea, but ultimately a let down. They turned out to be little more than tater tots with bacon. Overall a mediocre experience that was a bit overpriced- I don't think I'll be back.

Love this place. The food is good, the service is fast and it is great for kids. I take my kids here all the time because they like the Mac n cheese here. We usually sit inside at a booth and enjoy the music and the atmosphere. They have a patio on the side but the road is very noisy so we usually don't sit there.

We were on a Friday evening drive and saw this restaurant and because we like BBQ, we decided to give it a try. First I would like to say the service was very good. The atmosphere was what you would expect for this type of restaurant. We sat at a booth on wooden bench seating. It's as if Jedd Clampet had made the furniture,. It was quaint, rustic and as uncomfortable as hell. The BBQ itself was not that bad. The bbq brisket and pulled pork were both pretty tasty. I had the potato salad for a side and it was simply horrible. It was tateless. Now who's Momma has ever made tasteless potato salad? They would be better off if they just served the potato salad from Giant. The collard greens on the other hand were quite good. The cornbread was wrapped in cellophane which speaks volumes. Cornbread should always be served warm and with butter. It should never be served in celophane. If your traveling through Sandy Spring and see this restaurant....keep going.

There is something going on with the kitchen lately. Probably eaten here 25 times in the last few years, but the last two experiences have really been terrible. Wings were cold and very small. The BBQ has not been up to their usual standards. This is a great chain, but if you eat at one of the other locations and eat here....there is a difference. This is my local "go-to" place, but food is getting worse and portions smaller. If you need to raise prices a bit to maintain quality...do it. Ribs at the Ale House are now bigger and better. PLEASE fix it.

Easily the best BBQ in the region. Very cool little place, reminds me of the hole in the wall BBQ joints back in Alabama and Mississippi. They bring you a little bucket of peanuts to shell and eat while you're checking out the menu. I've always found the wait staff to be very friendly. Specials are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Happy hour is 4 - 7. They do have a full bar and a large area for take out orders. I'm normally a pork guy but at Urban, I usually order their brisket. The pork is somewhat below my expectations, not bad, but tends to be overly broken up and pre-sauced like it's kept ready to plate in a warming tray. The brisket, however, always appears fresh sliced and is tender with a heavy smoke ring. Some of the best brisket I've had. Sides are nice and the salads and hamburgers are great if you have folks in your group that aren't in the mood for BBQ. They have other locations around town but this one, although out of the way for us, is our favorite. Try it, I think you'll like it.

Fantastic BBQ!!! Enjoyed the chopped pork and the pulled chicken. Delicious!! Apparently they don't give you sauce unless you ask for it... didn't even think about when I ordered about $150 of food.... ribs were kind of tough, which is surprising. However, even given the cons, I still rate this place 4 stars. Forgot to mention the Soul Rolls.... soooooul delicious..... I could have eaten only those, but didn't order enough to do that and share.....

We eat here a couple times month, often on Tuesday, which is 1/2 price rib night. I'll eat half, and order an extra cornbread (the sweet, spicy hot and cakey kind, not the dry bland kind) and eat the rest for dinner Wednesday. A previous review stated the ribs were undercooked. Probably not, smoking meat tends to keep it pink, and their ribs are smokey and juicy. Beer is cold, good Peach iced tea. Service has always been just OK, but it seems better on the bar side, for some reason. The other UBBQ places near here are not as tasty as this one is, and much better atmosphere. This place is almost always hopping. They used to have fireballs in a bucket as you leave, instead of mints. Request to bring them back, please! Also, make the Fried Twinkie Sundae a regular item, and I will do my best to help you convince people that it won't kill you on the first bite. And if it does, it is worth it.

I love Urban BBQ. I haven't really foun anything I don't like. I've been to the Sandy Spring location, Rockville, Silver spring and have never been disappointed. The sandy spring location also has a full bar. Urban BBQ also has this delicous hot BBQ sauce called Corey's joes hot sauce, it is to die for.

I've been here a few times because they're close to where I live. First the good...the fries are the best. the beef brisket is decent and the sauces are fantastic. Unfortunately, the ribs are some of the worst in town! Always tough and and somewhat pricey..Avoid them ..The bar is a good place to hang though...update...I hear that tues they have half price ribs...at that price youve got to at least give it another shot..

Comparing Branded 72's food to Urban Barbecue, which restaurant also has excellent food, I would say that the meats at Branded 72 are smoked a bit BETTER. But the sauce at Urban Barbecue is better. BTW, for those of you who are gluten sensitive, Urban Barbecue, at least on route 108 in Sandy Spring, is much more aware of and knowledgeable about this issue. Branded 72 was, at my last visit a few weeks ago, virtually ignorant on the subject and the gluten content of their foods.

Our family of five arrived at 6pm this Saturday, were greeted cheerfully and seated immediately. It was our first visit. The mood, decor and music here were perfect. Just what I expected of a place with this name. My wife and I shared the full rack of pork ribs, salad and corn bread, while other family members enjoyed the beef brisket, a burger and the chili, which all arrived with little waiting. Everyone loved everything. Our table server, Alyssa, was relatively new on the job, but you'd never know it. She knew the menu backwards and forwards, answered all our questions, and never kept us waiting or wanting attention. She liked her job and it showed. I would take the few negative reviews here with no more than a couple grains of salt. All around, a terrific experience. We'll be back.

Food was absolutely delicious. The ribs were to die for I had a half rack and it was very tasty just with the sauce and I did not need to add any of the specially made sauce because the original sauce on it was delicious. the sides were great; the corn bread was good the service was good and friendly and very down home, very country Americana, and very wet barbecue they make great cosmos as well.

Great location. Plenty of seating. Real nice atmosphere. I got the beef brisket sandwich. They did the beef right. The sauces are weak. The chicken nothing special. The ribs kinda blah. Our waitress was nice. Great music. The drinks were good. My wife loved the big coffee mug.

Everything here is excellent! I love their BBQ better than any place in the area. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes the food isn't as fresh as other times. Kelsey is the best waitress.

Of the several Urban Bar-B-Ques in our area, I would say that this one is the most disappointing. They all have this bare bones, rustic decor - comfy but "down home."I would recommend the Baur Drive Shopping Center version, or the one next to Gilly's close to Rockville Pike - even the one off New Hampshire close to 495. This one, on Sandy Spring Road, is in a good location and the service was great but, the food was not what we expected. My companion and I shared the Soul Rolls, which were full of gristle (my companion pulled a chicken knuckle out of his..) We didn't like the flavor and left most of the rolls on the plate. I had the pulled pork platter and my companion had a rack of ribs. Both seemed barely heated. I ate all of the pulled pork but the lukewarm coleslaw I had with it had a old-shoe flavor. I left it on the plate. The Saran-Wrapped cornbread was tasteless and rubbery - probably wrapped too soon after baking. My companion's ribs were barely warmed and definitely not "falling off the bone." We were both ill all night - and I have what has been described as a "cast iron" stomach. I actually called both the HQ in Annapolis and this location the next morning and left messages saying that I wanted them to know. I told them that I recognized that they are a local chain and that I wanted them to do well. Neither returned the call.

Picked up an order the other day. Everything seemed kinda enh... Pretty salty. Even the cornbread was salty and a bit bitter. Ribs were decent. Sauce was okay. Brisket was cooked right. Tender. Which is probably the only thing right, except there was like no sauce. So I guess that was wrong too. Chili was salty too.. Overall decent food. Over priced for what it is.

Just picked up a brisket sandwich as I was in a hurry to get to a meeting. I really did not look at the menu. Put a mixture of their barbeque sauce and their hot sauce on the sandwich. The spices and the heat worked well together. I had to eat the sandwich in the car but really enjoyed it. Planning on stopping by when I can really look at the menu and eat at a slower pace.

The wife and I were looking to get some BBQ and we wanted to try someplace new, as we love to explore food establishments. After doing a search on Yelp, we figured that this would be a nice place to try out, boy were we right. First off, if you want to watch a game or games, this is the place to go. There are a dozen flat screen televisions with everything from NFL network to the Golf Channel and everything in between. I was watching the Shell Houston Open and my wife was watching the side of my turned head. This place has some great food! We started with fries smothered in gravy, as that is a face of mine. The gravy was very tasty, the only complaint was that for $6, I felt there should have been more. I would like to try the fires smothered in cheese and bacon though. We moved onto our entrees, which consisted of the sausage and pulled pork platter for me and the brisket for the wife. Both of my dishes had great flavor, was tender, and the wife seemed to enjoy her selection as well. I'm not a huge brisket fan, so I can't really speak about comparing it to other places. The sauces are on the table and you have the choice between red, yellow and green. The red is a BBQ sauce, and was a little too sweet for me. The yellow is a mustard based sauce, and it definitely was a tad spicy. The green is a cider based sauce, and when you mix it with the yellow, I felt the flavors just mixed great. I do wish they had something with more kick, but that's about it. In terms of sides, I know this sounds contrary to what you should get at a BBQ restaurant, but I had the caesar salad. The salad itself was unspectacular, however the dressing wasn't. It was some kind of southwestern caesar dressing. It was addicting! Hell, I think I would go here just to get the chicken caesar salad. On to dessert, which we weren't planning on getting, but that fried Twinkie sounded too good to pass up. Trust me, get the Twinkie. It made you feel like you just went to the county fair. It was super hot, so it was nice paired with the ice cream. We'll still hit up Kloby's, because it is closer, but we will definitely come back to Urban BBQ.

My favorite BBQ place in the DMV. The ribs, beef brisket, and BBQ chicken are all very good, and my go-to sides are the potato salad, macaroni & cheese, and collard greens. The cornbread is awesome, very moist with pieces of corn and cake-like texture (not the brittle, crumbly texture most places have).

I am guilty of passing Urban Bar-B-Que on a regular basis, and each time saying "I've got to try that place!" Well, last night, I did. My husband and I stopped in on a whim, and were so glad that we did. We actually came in a side door, and walked in facing the bar. Immediately, we were happy with the selection on tap. The menu selection wasn't huge, however, everything sounded so good that we had a hard time deciding on what to order. We ended up splitting two meals, the barbeque chicken (1/2 chicken) and Chilli Mac-Daddy (chilli on top of mac and cheese). Everything came out relatively quick, and tasted amazing! I am a finicky barbeque eater, and the chicken was one of the best I've tasted. I added some additional sauce on it, I can't remember the name, but it was vinegar based. It was a bit tangy, but I enjoyed it. After a great main course, we split a piece of the key lime pie for dessert. We loved that, too. All in all, we decided quickly that we would be back. The service and food, combined with a fun atmosphere made for a great dinner experience!

Worst Father's Day meal ever. The food was fine but the service was low and slow. Over 20 minutes to get drinks and more than 40 to get the food. Not even all the food as the salad we ordered never made it and the cornbread that they are so proud of was not served either. We had to get up twice to get the waiter. The manager we requested also could not be bothered to come to our table. A memorable dinner for all the wrong reasons. To add insult to injury, we had to get up a third time to pay for the privilege of being ignored.
